Attendant Care
Attendant care assists the participant to perform tasks they would normally be able to do for themselves. It is a service provided by an approved attendant care provider at an agreed govt. rate. Attendant care services include personal assistance, domestic assistance, community access, gardening and home maintenance services, child care services and educational and vocational support.
The commencement of the attendant care service at NWDS has introduced a new range of complexity to staffing and issues around supporting individuals in their own home. Some of these issues were identified and resolved early in the program through the initial home visit and Occupational Health and Safety House Inspections.
A range of issues can arise due to the participants being new to their brain injury and going through huge physical and emotional adjustment processes. These issues arise as the participant meets new challenges and develops an increased awareness of the long term implications of the deficits caused by their brain injury.
