Horticultural/ Disability Assistant (Full Time)

Essential Requirements

      * Current First Aid Certificate;           

      * Current NSW Manual LR driver's licence;

      * Certificate III Horticulture or willingness to achieve within 12 months

      * Certificate III Disability Studies or willingness to achieve within 12 months

      * And be able to satisfy our employment screening process.

 

NWDS are offering the successful candidate a permanent, full time, 38hrpw position (Tuesday – Saturday), with Award Wages under the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010 (SCHDSI Award) Grade 2 Year 1 equivalent and fringe benefits.

 

Job Description - 

The Secret Garden & Nursery is a not-for-profit public garden and nursery set on five beautiful acres in Richmond. It’s also a ‘horticulture as therapy garden’, offering a safe, supportive and educational environment where the community, the unemployed, school children, people with mental illness and disabilities can learn horticultural skills through the Food for Thought program.

The Secret Garden is now part of North West Disability Services which is a leading, Not-For-Profit organisation providing Post School Programs & Respite for over 300 adults and children with a disability across a number of sites in north western Sydney.  This position is located in Richmond.

NWDS requires the services of a motivated, organised assistant who can demonstrate through experience and qualifications the ability to provide hands on support to the Garden Manager, the direct support clients accessing the garden and the great band of volunteers supporting the garden and its vision.

Job Description - 

North West Disability Services is an innovative & dynamic organisation that supports more than 400 people in the North West Area of Sydney. We are seeking casual support workers wanting a career in the disability field and our current preference is for people willing to skill up quickly in the base requirements and work 1:1 in the field doing exciting support shifts. These can include out of hours which would fit in well with students studying & is hoped which may lead to ongoing shifts. A variety of work times and opportunities are possible with day programs, out of hours services and some weekend or shift work also available. The positions would primarily be based in our Hills location and Blacktown/Penrith areas, with some opportunity for work at Richmond.

The ideal candidate would promote the dignity, independence, and self worth of each service user. To assist each service user to understand their rights and responsibilities, to become valued and respected members of the community, to provide assistance where necessary and to teach them the skills necessary to reach their goals and maximum potential. Support Workers are expected to work in a positive manner as part of the overall service team of NWDS.
